The Ukrainian Welcome Fund
The GSJ Community Foundation Announces New Fund to support Newcomers from Ukraine
A joint effort with TD Wealth, The United Way Saint John, Kings & Charlotte, YMCA, and the Saint John Region Chamber of Commerce
The Community Foundation is thrilled to work with TD Wealth in the establishment of a new fund to welcome Ukrainian newcomers to Greater Saint John. The new fund, to be called The Ukrainian Welcome Fund was announced today during the Foundation’s Annual General Meeting in the presence of 300 of their stakeholders, donors, and friends. The Foundation is contributing $10,000 to the fund and TD Wealth is matching that donation. The funds will be distributed through The Newcomer Connections program at the YMCA of Greater Saint John.
“We are so pleased to support the Foundation on this important initiative,” said John Fitzpatrick, Jr. of TD Wealth. “We know these funds will be put to great use through the YMCA and directly impact the lives of Ukrainians coming to Saint John.”
The Community Foundation and the United Way are always aligning efforts. When the United Way learned of this new fund, they immediately offered a third matching gift of $10,000.
The Chamber is also partnering with The Community Foundation on this initiative by providing a $1,000 donation and promoting the fund to the businesses throughout their membership to encourage additional donations.
“Everyone wants to help Ukraine during this unprecedented time. As a Foundation that is committed to the community that we serve, we knew it was imperative to establish a fund to support and welcome Ukrainian newcomers settling in Greater Saint John,” stated Dr. Mike Simon, Community Foundation Board Chair. “It is heartwarming to see this unfold so quickly with the support of our corporate donor, TD Wealth, The United Way, and The Chamber.”
