The Nauwigewauk Education Foundation Bursary Fund

The Nauwigewauk Education Foundation Inc. (NEFI) was established in 2002 to provide bursaries to support post-secondary education for students living in the Nauwigewauk/Darlings Island local service district.

The Grant Beyea Memorial Bursary was established in memory of Grant Beyea, who was one of the founding members of NEFI. Grant was the husband of Pam (Henderson) Beyea and father to Jesse and Jake. He grew up in East Saint John and graduated from Simonds High School in 1977. Grant was employed with EMCO Canada as the Branch Manager for Saint John at the time of his death in 1997. He was loved by his family and friends.

The Joe Thompson Memorial Bursary was established in memory of Joe Thompson who was the husband of Wanda (Rogers) Thompson and father to Mary Beth, Peter and Darren. Joe grew up in Model Farm (Quispamsis) and his life was shaped by his rural environment and close extended family ties. He was a well-known teacher and school district administrator and was a mentor to many new teachers entering the teaching profession. This bursary is a fitting tribute to Joe.

These bursaries are available to graduating high school students living in Nauwigewauk/Darlings Island area and enrolled at a post-secondary institution. In addition to geographical location, financial need and academic standing shall form the criteria for consideration in awarding each bursary.
