Looking back at the Volunteer Blitz of 2021
When Showing Up Made All the Difference
For 50 years, the Foundation has believed that lasting change happens when people come together to care for one another. In 2021, that belief came to life in a powerful way through our first-ever Volunteer Blitz.
At a time when connection mattered more than ever, volunteer “bubble” groups stepped forward to complete nearly 20 hands-on projects for local charities. From gardening at shelters to painting community spaces, neighbours showed up with open hearts and willing hands.
The day ended with a joyful surprise — a $10,000 gift awarded to a participating charity — but the true impact went far beyond dollars. The energy was electric. First-time volunteers and longtime supporters worked side by side, united by a shared purpose: to give back.
The Volunteer Blitz reminded us that philanthropy is not only about what we give, but how we show up. It is about people, community, and love in action — values that have guided the Foundation for five decades and will continue to shape our future.
As one participant reflected, “It felt good to do something real — something that mattered.”
