50 Years of Impact: The Legacy of a Good Guy

For nearly two decades, the Brian Lund Memorial Fund has carried forward a legacy of compassion and inclusion.

Some people leave a mark on their community so lasting that even years later, their kindness continues to ripple outward through the lives of others. Brian Lund was one of those people.

Friends and family described Brian as a “GG” (a Good Guy). But to those who knew him best, he was much more than that. He was a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend, a mentor, and someone who genuinely cared about helping others feel seen, supported, and included.

Brian’s warmth was contagious. Whether through sports, martial arts, volunteering, or simply showing up for people when they needed him most, he had a gift for making others feel important.

After Brian’s sudden passing in 2007, his family established the Brian Lund Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation to honour the values he lived every day: compassion, inclusion, encouragement, and community.

The fund has supported programs that help young people build confidence and connection, including initiatives like P.R.O. Kids and mentoring opportunities that ensure every child has the chance to participate, belong, and thrive regardless of financial barriers.

That spirit of gratitude, generosity, and care continues to live on through the fund bearing his name.

Over the years, the Brian Lund Memorial Fund has become more than a memorial, it is a reflection of a life lived fully and generously. A reminder that the legacy we leave is often found not in grand gestures, but in everyday acts of kindness, encouragement, and love.

Fifty years into the Community Foundation’s story, the Brian Lund Memorial Fund stands as a powerful example of how philanthropy can preserve a person’s spirit while helping future generations flourish.
