The St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Endowment Fund
Established in 2025 by the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception, this endowment supports women and children at St. Joseph’s Hospital—ensuring access to compassionate care for generations to come.
In June 2025, the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception established a permanent endowment fund to honour their long-standing commitment to health care in Saint John. The St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Endowment Fund is a lasting legacy that will support women and children seeking care at St. Joseph’s Hospital for generations to come.
The Sisters of Charity founded St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1914, and later established the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation in 1982 to carry on their mission through fundraising for medical equipment, education, and enhanced patient care. With the creation of this endowment, they take another meaningful step in ensuring that compassionate, dignified health care remains accessible to those who need it most.
Annual income from the fund will be directed to a new initiative called the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception Legacy Fund for Women and Children, administered by the Hospital Foundation. This dedicated fund will provide vital supports to patients who face financial or other barriers to care. It will help cover essential needs such as diabetic supplies, transportation, temporary accommodations, medications, and more. In addition, it will support the purchase of comfort items and equipment—like waiting room furnishings, infant care tools, and children’s toys—that improve the experience of women and pediatric patients.
In establishing this fund, the Sisters have reaffirmed their fundamental belief: that everyone deserves access to compassionate, quality care—especially women and children navigating vulnerable times in their lives.
The Community Foundation is honoured to steward this fund in alignment with their values and to help carry forward this legacy of love and healing.
