Building for the Future 

Shining Horizons began with the vision of its long time Patrons, Kent Grass and Stacey Hope. Both lifelong horse lovers, and deeply aware of the power of horses as therapeutic partners, Kent and Stacey dreamed of creating an organization that would help children and youth facing mental and physical challenges build skills, confidence, and independence through therapeutic riding. 

In the early years, Shining Horizons operated modestly and delivered programming through rented facilities throughout the region. Kent and Stacey always hoped that one day the organization would have a home of its own, one that would allow programming to expand into a full, week-long operational model capable of serving the broader community. 

In 2014, Shining Horizons became an official not-for-profit organization. Just a few years later, in 2018, with the support of committed donors and friends and family, Kent and Stacey’s dream became a reality. They purchased a beautiful 15-acre property on the shores of the Bay of Fundy, just outside Saint John, and generously donated 8 acres of it to Shining Horizons. With the funds raised, the organization was able to build its current facility on Red Head Road. 

Today, Kent and Stacey continue to be deeply involved in Shining Horizons as valued patrons and dedicated volunteers, supporting the organization wherever needed. Kent also serves as Co-Chair of the Board, providing guidance and leadership to the management team. 

Because of their vision, dedication, and unwavering commitment, Shining Horizons has grown into a leading equine-assisted wellness centre, offering Therapeutic Riding and, since 2023, a range of Equine-Assisted Therapy programs led by licensed therapists. These programs now support children, youth, and adults facing mental health-related challenges across our community. 

The Shining Horizons Endowment Fund has been established in honour of Kent and Stacey’s enduring commitment and contributions, ensuring that their vision continues to guide the organization’s future. 

By building a permanent, stable source of income, the endowment will help safeguard the long-term sustainability of Shining Horizons. It will ensure that therapeutic riding, mental health services, and equine-assisted programs remain accessible for generations to come, regardless of fluctuations in grant funding, economic conditions, or unexpected challenges. 

This fund will create a strong financial foundation for the future, helping Shining Horizons continue its mission and sustain the dream that Kent and Stacey brought to life.
