Kendall and Arlene Higgins, originally from Pictou County, Nova Scotia, moved to New Brunswick in 1989 and settled in the Kennebecasis Valley with their children Jennifer and James.

In 1993 they opened Higgins General Insurance. What began as a husband and wife team has grown to a thriving operation that employs more than 30 employees, and services all of Atlantic Canada.

In appreciation of the support local residents have shown for the family, Kendall and Arlene have established The Higgins Family Bursary Fund. This fund will provide bursaries for graduating high school students in the Greater Saint John area that plan to enroll at any campus of the New Brunswick Community College. Financial need is the primary criteria for consideration in awarding each Bursary, with preference given to students who also demonstrate ambition, tenacity and a spirit of community.
