The Gertrude Lunney and Hilda Lunney Fund
The Gertrude Lunney and Hilda Lunney Fund was established in 2025 to honour two beloved sisters and their deep ties to Saint John. This endowed fund supports the ongoing work of the Greater Saint John Community Foundation, ensuring their legacy lives on.
In June 2025, this fund was established by the Lunney family to honour the memory and legacy of two remarkable sisters: Gertrude “Gert” Lunney and Sister Hilda Miriam Lunney. The Gertrude Lunney and Hilda Lunney Fund, and reflects a deep and enduring connection to Saint John, New Brunswick — the place the Lunney siblings proudly called home.
Gert passed away in 2008, and Sister Hilda in early 2025. The two were part of a close-knit family of nine siblings — Clara, Marie, Patricia, Edna, Bernie, Danny, and Mary Eva — all of whom were raised in Saint John and maintained strong ties to the region throughout their lives.
This fund supports the ongoing operational and administrative needs of the Greater Saint John Community Foundation. By doing so, the Lunney family has created a lasting legacy that strengthens the Foundation’s ability to serve the community, now and into the future.
This endowed fund will be invested in perpetuity as part of the Foundation’s Common Fund, with annual income used at the Foundation’s discretion to ensure it can continue its essential work. It is a tribute not only to the memory of Gert and Hilda, but to the spirit of generosity and civic commitment that defined the Lunney family.
The Foundation is honoured to steward this gift and welcomes additional contributions from anyone who wishes to support this meaningful legacy.
