The Dr. Mary Patricia Donihee Gould Literacy Fund
The Dr. Mary Patricia Donihee Gould Literacy Fund, established in 2024, provides annual grants to support literacy among marginalized children, honoring Patricia's dedication to education and community service.
In July of 2024, the Dr. Mary Patricia Donihee Gould Literacy Fund was proudly established by her family to honor the remarkable legacy of Dr. Mary Patricia Donihee Gould, affectionately known as Patricia (Pat).
Patricia’s journey through life, from her birth on July 15th, 1941, in Cornwall, Ontario, to her peaceful passing on December 28th, 2023, was marked by profound connections, boundless kindness, and unwavering dedication to education and service. As a true Maritimer who made New Brunswick her home, Patricia’s love for the landscape was as deep as her love for her family, friends, and community.
An accomplished academic, Patricia earned degrees from St Joseph’s School of Nursing, St Thomas University, the University of New Brunswick, and Westbrook University, where she completed her Ph.D. in counselling psychology in 2002. Her professional contributions spanned numerous boards, including The College of Licensed Counselling Therapists, the Muriel McQueen Ferguson Foundation, and The William Glasser Institute Canada, where she was a senior faculty member.
Patricia’s influence extended globally through her work with the Dr. Sue Morter’s Energy Code Community, reflecting her spirit of generosity and wisdom. She was endowed with a deep belief in the importance of growth, learning, curiosity, and expanding one’s boundaries. Patricia exemplified these principles throughout her life, demonstrating them in her diverse careers and her caring, loving approach to offering expertise. Whether through her establishment of the College, her work with the Glasser Institute, or her involvement with Dr. Sue Morter’s community, Patricia stayed true to assisting others with care and compassion.
In keeping with Patricia’s lifelong commitment to learning and service, the Dr. Mary Patricia Donihee Gould Literacy Fund will award an annual grant to advance literacy amongst marginalized children. Literacy opens many doors for children and families, providing the impetus for moving forward. Children need literacy skills to avoid significant barriers to advancement. Patricia was a lifelong learner who always enjoyed exploring new ideas and experiences, from climbing pyramids to owning a bookstore and participating in book clubs. Her dedication to learning and helping others was evident in all she did.
Through this endowment, Patricia’s family hopes to inspire future generations to pursue knowledge and break the cycle of poverty, ensuring that Patricia’s legacy of love, education, and community service continues to touch lives for years to come.
